The ABS DWV 90-degree street vent elbow features a spigot x hub connection and the abrupt 90-degree angle is used to change the direction of flow in the venting side of the system. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is resistant to a wide variety of materials ranging from sewage to commercial household chemical formulations and can be exposed to a wide temperature span. ABS is lightweight, safe to handle and easy to install. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading and can easily be connected to steel, copper, or cast iron through the use of transition fittings. 1) What sizes does the Nibco 5807-2-V ABS DWV vent elbow come in?
Two sizes: 1-1/2 inch (MPN I057400) and 2 inch (MPN I057500). Both are Schedule 40 ABS DWV with the same spigot x hub configuration.
2) What does Spg x Hub mean on this ABS elbow, and do I need a coupling?
Spigot by hub means one end is sized like pipe (it slips into another fitting's socket) and the other end is a socket that accepts pipe or a spigot. That is why it is called a street elbow: you can join it straight into the next fitting without cutting a short nipple or adding a coupling.
3) Can I use the 5807-2-V 90-degree elbow on a drain line, or vent only?
Vent only. The 5807-2-V is a vent-pattern 1/4 bend, built with an abrupt 90-degree turn to change direction on the dry venting side of a DWV system. On the drainage side that sharp turn restricts flow, so use a long sweep or a sanitary-pattern fitting for waste piping.
4) How is this ABS fitting joined, and can I tie it into cast iron or copper?
It is a solvent weld fitting, so it is cemented to Schedule 40 ABS DWV pipe with ABS solvent cement. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading, and it connects to steel, copper, or cast iron through transition fittings rather than direct cementing.
5) What standards does this Nibco ABS vent elbow meet for an inspected commercial job?
It is made to ASTM D2665, ASTM D3965, ASTM D2661 and D3311, carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF U.P. certification, and is UL Listed 94V-0. It is approved for both commercial and residential plumbing use.

Service temperature runs from -40 F to 180 F. One hard limit to respect: never test or use ABS DWV with compressed air or other gases, water test only.
7) Will this black ABS elbow match the PVC DWV already in my building?
It will not. The 5807-2-V is black ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), and ABS and white PVC are different materials that should not be solvent cemented to one another in most jurisdictions. If your existing stack is PVC, stay with PVC DWV fittings or use a listed transition coupling.
