The tee features a solder cup and female NPT threads on the run and a solder cup on the branch. This fitting allows for a connection to be made in continuous pipeline and branch out to a different direction while adapting from a solder connection to a threaded connection. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco B16020L – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does C x F x C mean on the Nibco 714-LF tee?
On the 714-LF, the two run ends are not the same: one run end is a solder cup (C) that slips over copper tube, the center or opposite run end is female NPT thread (F), and the branch is a solder cup (C). So you solder the straight run into copper pipe and thread a male NPT nipple, valve, or appliance connector into the female port. It is the fitting you use when you need to continue a copper line, break out a branch, and pick up a threaded connection at the same time.
2) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 714-LF bronze tee come in?
Two sizes, 1/2 inch and 1 inch. The 1/2 inch is MPN BF5945L and the 1 inch is MPN B16020L. Both are straight size tees, meaning the run and branch match the nominal size.
3) Should I use a bronze C x F x C tee or a plain copper solder tee?
Use a plain copper solder tee when every leg is copper tube and you are just branching a line. The 714-LF earns its place when one leg has to land on a thread, for example picking up a threaded gauge, valve, appliance connector, or heat exchanger tapping without adding a separate adapter and extra solder joint. It is cast in Silicon Performance Bronze alloy rather than wrought copper, which is what lets it hold machined female NPT threads.
4) Can the Nibco 714-LF tee be used as a heat exchanger tee on a hydronic or water heater loop?
Yes, it is classified as a heat exchanger tee as well as a straight size threaded tee. The female NPT port takes a threaded element, sensor well, or exchanger connection while the soldered run stays in the copper circuit, which is the usual arrangement on indirect water heater and hydronic tie-ins.
5) What design standard does the Nibco 714-LF tee meet for spec submittals?
It is manufactured to ASME B16.18, the design standard for cast copper alloy solder joint pressure fittings, and carries NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372 certification for potable water. Those are the three lines most plumbing submittals and municipal inspections ask for.
6) Do I need Teflon tape or dope on the threaded port of this Nibco tee?
The female leg is NPT, a tapered thread that seals on the threads themselves, so it needs a thread sealant or PTFE tape on the male fitting going into it. The solder cups need flux and solder in the normal way. Sweat the copper joints before you thread anything soft or plastic into the female port so you are not putting torch heat near it.
7) Is this Nibco tee suitable for a green building or LEED-type project?
It fits that use. The fitting is lead-free, dezincification resistant bronze, and copper's recyclability is one of the reasons these fittings get specified on sustainable work. The NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372 certifications cover the potable-water documentation side.
