1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 726-LF stop and waste valve come in?
Two sizes: 1/2 inch (MPN ND170X6) and 3/4 inch (ND170X8). Both are solder cup by solder cup, so the cup accepts the outside diameter of nominal copper tube of that size. Order by the tube size you are sweating into, not by the fitting OD.
2) Does the 726-LF valve thread on or does it have to be soldered?
It solders. Both ends are solder cups, so this goes in with a torch and sweat joints, not threads or press. If the run is already threaded or you want a union, this is the wrong end style for that connection.
3) What is the difference between a stop and waste valve and a plain stop valve?
A stop and waste has a drain port. Shut the valve and open the small side drain, and the downstream line empties, which is what you want on hose bibb feeds, irrigation lines, or anything that has to be winterized. The 726-LF is the with-drain type. A straight stop without the drain shuts flow only and leaves water sitting in the line.
4) Can I use the Nibco 726-LF on a potable water line?
Yes. It is a lead-free valve certified compliant with California Health and Safety Code 116875 and Vermont Act 193 by IAPMO Research and Testing, and it carries the Nibco double-oval lead-free body marking. The white epoxy coated handwheel is the quick visual tell on the job that it is the lead-free version.
5) What pressure and temperature can this Nibco stop and waste valve handle?
125 psi at 100 degrees F, with a maximum temperature of 180 degrees F (82 degrees C). That covers domestic cold and hot water service. It is not a steam valve, and anything running above 180 degrees F needs a different valve.
6) Will the 726-LF valve stand up to hot water, or will the seat fail?
The seat is EPDM, which is the usual elastomer for potable hot and cold water service, and the valve is rated to 180 degrees F. Keep it off oil-bearing or petroleum systems, since EPDM is not the right seat material there.
7) Can the stem or washer be serviced without cutting the valve out of the line?
Yes, it has a screw-in bonnet. Back the bonnet out and the stem assembly comes up, so a leaking stem or a worn seat washer gets handled in place rather than resweating the whole valve. That matters on multi-family and MRO work where the valve is buried behind an access panel.
