The original Chemtrol® True Union design allows the valve and operational components to be conveniently lifted from the piping system for repair or replacement. The valve can be easily joined with the flanged end connections. Please refer to Chemtrol technical data sheets, valve selection guides and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Corzan® CPVC Schedule 80 thermoplastics demonstrate excellent mechanical strength over broad temperature range, outstanding underground performance and superior hydraulics. Chemtrol Corzan® CPVC valves are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. Choose Chemtrol® valves for the most reliable, versatile and economical valve option in commercial and industrial applications. Chemtrol® ball check valves are backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Because Chemtrol® is a NIBCO brand the flow-control valves are unsurpassed in quality, performance and longevity.

Nibco MB802AA – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Nibco F51BC-V flanged ball check valve bolt up to my ANSI Class 150 flanges?
Yes. The F51BC-V uses flanged end connections that match the ANSI B16.5 Class 150 bolt pattern, so it mates with standard Class 150 companion flanges. Just remember the 150 psi at 73F water rating is the valve's limit, not the flange rating, and the CPVC body needs even, controlled bolt torque against a full-face gasket rather than the torque you would use on metal.
2) Can I service this check valve without cutting the pipe out?
That is the point of the true union design. The valve body and the internal ball and seat lift out of the line for cleaning or replacement while the flanged ends stay bolted to the piping, so a maintenance crew can pull the guts without re-making any joints. On a chemical feed or recirculation line that fouls, this is the difference between a ten minute job and a repipe.
3) Is the FKM seal the right choice, or should I look at EPDM for my chemical line?
The F51BC-V carries an FKM fluoroelastomer O-ring and seat seal. FKM is the pick for aggressive oxidizers, acids and hydrocarbon-bearing service; EPDM is the alternative where the media is a ketone, an ester or hot water/steam condensate, which attack FKM. Check your chemical against the elastomer before you commit, because the seal, not the CPVC, is usually what fails first.
4) How hot can this CPVC check valve run?
Maximum service temperature is 210F, with the 150 psi pressure rating taken at 73F water non-shock. Like all thermoplastic valves the allowable pressure falls off as temperature climbs, so a line running near 210F should not be treated as a 150 psi line. Corzan CPVC is what buys you that upper temperature range over standard PVC.
5) Can I pressure test this valve with air?
No. Do not use or test the valve with compressed air or any other gas. Thermoplastic valves store energy when pressurized with a compressible fluid and can fail violently. Hydrostatic test only.
6) Is this ball check valve approved for potable water?
The F51BC-V is listed to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and also carries ASTM F1970. It is flagged lead-free, so it suits potable and commercial plumbing work as well as industrial and irrigation service.
7) What pipe sizes does the Chemtrol F51BC-V ball check valve come in?
Eight sizes: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2, 3 and 4 inch. Ordering part numbers run MB802A6 for the 1/2 inch through MB802AH for the 4 inch. All are Schedule 80 CPVC with flanged ends.
8) Does a ball check valve like this have to be installed in a particular orientation?
A ball check relies on the ball unseating with flow and returning to the seat when flow stops, so orientation matters. It is a poppet-style ball, not a swing disc, and it always installs with the flow arrow on the body pointing downstream. Confirm the Chemtrol technical data sheet for the orientation allowed in your size before you set the hangers.
9) Why choose flanged ends over socket or threaded on a CPVC check valve?
Flanged ends let you drop the valve into an existing bolted run and pull it straight back out, which is why they get specified on larger lines and on equipment skids where the valve is serviced. Socket weld ends are cheaper and more compact for small-diameter branch work, but they are solvent cemented in place. With the F51BC-V you get flanged connections to ANSI B16.5 Class 150 in every size from 1/2 up to 4 inch.
10) What color is the valve body, and will it match my existing CPVC Schedule 80 piping?
Light grey, which is the standard Corzan CPVC Schedule 80 color, so it reads the same as the grey CPVC pipe and fittings already in the run. CPVC will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, so it holds that appearance in wet and chemical environments.
