1) Will the Nibco F51BC-E ball check valve bolt up to my existing ANSI 150 flanges?
Yes. The F51BC-E has flanged end connections compatible with ANSI B16.5 Class 150 bolt patterns, so it mates with standard Class 150 flanges on either side. You supply the bolts and gaskets for the joint.
2) What is the pressure and temperature rating on the F51BC-E?
150 psi at 73 degrees F, water, non-shock, with a maximum service temperature of 210 degrees F. Corzan CPVC holds mechanical strength across that range, but like all thermoplastics the working pressure derates as temperature climbs toward the 210 degree limit, so do not assume the full 150 psi at hot-water temperatures.
3) Is this valve approved for potable water?
The F51BC-E is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and it also meets ASTM F1970. It is listed as a lead-free application item, which is what a facility or municipal spec normally calls for on potable service.
4) Are the EPDM seals in this valve compatible with my chemical?
The F51BC-E uses EPDM O-rings and an EPDM rubber seat seal. EPDM suits water, most dilute acids and bases, but it is not the right elastomer for petroleum oils or hydrocarbons, so check the Chemtrol chemical resistance guide for your specific media before committing. Nibco also publishes a POE (polyol ester) plastics incompatibility warning that applies to these valves.
5) Ball check or swing check for a CPVC line?
A ball check like the F51BC-E uses a free-floating ball that seats by backflow, with no hinge pin or external cover, which is why it works well on dosing, irrigation and chemical feed lines where you want minimal moving parts. It does need to be installed in the correct flow direction and generally in the orientation the manufacturer specifies for the ball to return to seat. Swing checks are usually chosen where lower head loss at high flow matters more.
6) Can I service a ball check valve without cutting the pipe out?
That is the point of the true union design. The valve body and the internal operating parts lift out of the piping system for repair or replacement while the flanged end connections stay bolted to the line, so a worn ball or O-ring does not mean cutting and re-solvent-welding pipe.
7) Which part number do I order for a 2 inch line?
The 2 inch F51BC-E is MPN MB819AD. For reference on the rest of the run: 1/2 inch is MB819A6, 3/4 inch MB819A8, 1 inch MB819AA, 1-1/2 inch MB819AC, 3 inch MB819AF and 4 inch MB819AH.
8) Will a CPVC valve hold up buried or in a corrosive plant environment?
