1) Will the Nibco F51TB-E flanged ball valve bolt up to my existing ANSI Class 150 flanges?
Yes. The F51TB-E has flanged end connections compatible with ANSI B16.5 Class 150 bolt patterns, so it drops between standard Class 150 companion flanges. Keep in mind the body is Corzan CPVC Schedule 80, not metal, so bolts get torqued in a cross pattern to the plastic valve manufacturer's values and full-face gaskets are the norm on plastic flange joints.
2) What pressure and temperature can this CPVC ball valve handle?
150 psi at 73 degrees F with water, non-shock, full port, and a maximum service temperature of 210 degrees F. Like all thermoplastic valves, the pressure rating falls off as temperature climbs, so a line running near 210 degrees F is not a 150 psi line. One hard limit: do not use or test the valve with compressed air or other gases.
3) Can I service this valve without cutting the pipe out?
That is the point of the Tru-Bloc true union design. The valve and its operating components lift out of the piping system for repair or replacement while the flanged connections stay in place. A self-adjusting energizer O-ring keeps the seal set as the seats wear, so routine adjustment is not part of the maintenance.
4) Is this valve approved for potable water?
It carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN-61, and is designated lead-free. It also meets ASTM F1970, the standard for thermoplastic valves in pressure applications. That combination is what specifiers look for on commercial potable water systems.
5) What pipe sizes does the Chemtrol F51TB-E true union ball valve come in?
Three sizes: 3 inch (MB612AF), 4 inch (MB612AH), and 6 inch (MB612AK). All are full port, so the bore matches the nominal line size and you are not throttling flow through the valve.
6) Is EPDM the right seal choice, or should I be looking at a different elastomer?
The F51TB-E uses EPDM O-rings and EPDM rubber seat seals. EPDM suits water, many aqueous solutions, and a range of chemicals, but it is not the choice for petroleum oils and hydrocarbons, where a Viton/FKM seal valve is the usual answer. Chemtrol publishes chemical resistance guides for the specific media, and that is the check to make before committing.
7) Should I use a flanged CPVC ball valve or a socket/threaded one on a 4 inch line?
Flanged, like the F51TB-E, is what you want where the valve has to come out of the line repeatedly, where you are tying into existing Class 150 flanged equipment such as pumps or tanks, or on larger diameters where handling a solvent-welded joint is impractical. Socket or threaded true union valves are cheaper and more compact and make sense on smaller runs buried in a pipe rack. At 3, 4, and 6 inch, flanged is the common commercial choice.
8) What color is the valve body and handle so I can match what is already installed?
The body is light grey Corzan CPVC with an orange handle. That orange handle is the quick visual tell for CPVC against the grey handles typical on PVC valves, which helps when you are walking a plant and need to know which line you are on.
