1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco T51TB-E CPVC ball valve come in?
Two sizes, both full port: 3 inch (MPN MB610AF) and 4 inch (MPN MB610AH). Both are Schedule 80 CPVC with female NPT threaded ends, so they thread onto male-threaded 3 inch or 4 inch pipe or adapters of the same nominal size.
2) Can I use this CPVC ball valve on compressed air?
No. The T51TB-E is a liquid-service valve only; Chemtrol states not to use or test it with compressed air or other gases. If your line is air or gas, specify a valve rated for gas service instead. It is also pressure rated 150 psi at 73 F water non-shock, with a maximum service temperature of 210 F, and that pressure rating drops as temperature climbs on any thermoplastic valve.
3) Do I have to cut the pipe out to service a Tru-Bloc true union ball valve?
No, and that is the point of the true union body. Both union nuts back off so the valve and its operating components lift straight out of the line for repair or seal replacement, with the threaded end connectors left in place on the pipe. The Tru-Bloc design adds a self-adjusting energizer O-ring so the seat takes up wear without manual adjustment.
4) Is this valve approved for potable water?
The T51TB-E carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 certification and is listed as a lead-free application, which is what a potable water spec calls for. It also meets ASTM F1970. Nibco lists it for commercial plumbing, industrial, and irrigation service.
5) Will EPDM seals in this Chemtrol valve hold up to my chemical?
The seat and O-ring elastomer is EPDM rubber. EPDM handles water, dilute acids and bases, and most water treatment chemistry, but it is a poor match for petroleum oils and many solvents, where FKM/Viton is the usual alternative. Nibco directs you to the Chemtrol chemical resistance guide for your specific media before you commit.
6) Is the threaded version better than a socket-weld CPVC ball valve for my job?
Threaded ends are the choice when you need to break the valve out of a line without solvent cementing, or you are tying into existing metal or threaded plastic. The T51TB-E takes female NPT on both ends, so you thread in male adapters or nipples. If the run is all new CPVC pipe, a socket end version cemented in gives a joint with no thread sealant to fail. On either style, thread into plastic by hand with tape or paste only, no pipe dope that attacks CPVC, and never overtighten.
7) What color is the valve body and handle, so I can match what is already in the plant?
