1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco S51TB-V CPVC true union ball valve come in?
Three sizes: 3 inch (MB599AF), 4 inch (MB599AH), and 6 inch (MB599AK). All are full port with socket (solvent weld) end connections, so the bore matches the line size and you are not throttling flow through the valve.
2) How does the S51TB-V valve connect to CPVC pipe, and can I thread it in?
It is a socket valve, solvent welded. The sockets take Schedule 80 CPVC pipe in the matching size using CPVC solvent cement, and there is no threaded option on this model. If your line is threaded, you either need threaded adapters or a threaded-end version of the valve.
3) What pressure and temperature can this Chemtrol Corzan CPVC ball valve handle?
150 psi at 73 degrees F, water, non-shock, full port, with a maximum service temperature of 210 degrees F. Pressure rating drops as temperature climbs, which is normal for thermoplastic valves, so check the Chemtrol pressure/temperature curve for hot service. It must never be used or tested with compressed air or other gases.
4) Can the valve be serviced without cutting the pipe?
That is the point of the Tru-Bloc True Union body. The union nuts let you lift the valve and its internals out of the line for repair or replacement while the socket-welded end connectors stay in the pipe. The self-adjusting energizer O-ring takes up seal wear so you are not constantly retightening the seat carrier.
5) Is this CPVC ball valve approved for potable water?
It is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and also carries ASTM F1970. The valve is listed lead-free, so it is used in commercial plumbing as well as industrial and irrigation service.
6) Is the FKM seal the right choice for my chemical, or should I use EPDM?
The S51TB-V uses FKM (fluoroelastomer) seats and O-rings, which generally suit acids, oxidizers, and hydrocarbons where EPDM degrades. EPDM is the better pick for ketones and some caustics. Match the elastomer to your media using the Chemtrol chemical resistance guide before you commit the line.
7) What color is the valve body and handle, so I can match what is on the wall now?
