1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco T51TB-V CPVC true union ball valve come in?
The T51TB-V is offered in 3 inch and 4 inch. The 3 inch is MPN MB598AF and the 4 inch is MB598AH. Both are full port, so the bore matches the nominal line size and you are not choking flow through the valve.
2) How does the T51TB-V connect to the pipe, solvent weld or threads?
Threaded, not solvent cemented. The end connections are female NPT, so it threads onto male NPT pipe ends or male adapters. If your line is plain CPVC pipe, you will need Schedule 80 male adapters to land on it. Thread sealant suited to CPVC and the media should be used; do not over-torque plastic threads.
3) What pressure and temperature can this Chemtrol CPVC ball valve handle?
150 psi at 73 F on water, non-shock, in the full port configuration, with a maximum service temperature of 210 F. Like all thermoplastic valves, the working pressure drops as temperature climbs toward that 210 F ceiling, so size your system against the media temperature, not the 73 F number.
4) Can I use this CPVC valve on a compressed air line?
No. The T51TB-V is not to be used or tested with compressed air or other gases. That includes pressure testing, which is where people most often get into trouble with thermoplastic valves. Hydrostatic test with liquid only.
5) Is the T51TB-V approved for potable water?
It is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and meets ASTM F1970. It is also carried as lead-free, which is what a plumbing inspector looks for on a potable line.
6) Do I have to cut the valve out of the line to service it?
No. The Tru-Bloc true union design lets you back off the union nuts and lift the valve and its internals out of the piping for repair or replacement, leaving the end connectors threaded into the line. The self-adjusting energizer O-ring is the Tru-Bloc addition over a plain true union, keeping the seal loaded as the seats wear.
7) Is FKM the right seal for my chemical line, or should I be looking at EPDM?
This version is built with FKM fluoroelastomer seats and O-rings. FKM is the usual choice for aggressive acids, oxidizers, and hydrocarbons in a CPVC system, where EPDM is the alternative for water and some caustics. Chemtrol publishes chemical resistance guides covering the specific media, and the seal choice is the piece of this valve that decides service life more than anything else.
8) What is the difference between Corzan CPVC and standard PVC for an industrial valve?
Corzan CPVC carries a higher temperature ceiling than PVC, and this valve runs up to 210 F service. It holds mechanical strength across a broad temperature range, performs underground, and will not rust, scale, pit, or corrode. If your line is hot process water or heated chemical, CPVC is the reason to choose this over a PVC body.
