All inner surfaces of the Tru-Bloc® bleach valve are kept constantly wetted and vented to the upstream side when the valve is in the closed position, eliminating the conditions required for gas accumulation and caustic crystallization in the body cavity. The Tru-Bloc® valve is engineered with a self-adjusting seat and upstream and downstream blocking capability to stop flow when an alternate union is removed for servicing the piping system. The valve can be easily joined with the socket end connections. Please refer to Chemtrol technical data sheets, valve selection guides and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Corzan® CPVC Schedule 80 thermoplastics demonstrate excellent mechanical strength over broad temperature range, outstanding underground performance and superior hydraulics. Chemtrol Corzan® CPVC valves are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. Choose Chemtrol® valves for the most reliable, versatile and economical valve option in commercial and industrial applications. Chemtrol® ball valves are backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Because Chemtrol® is a NIBCO brand the flow-control valves are unsurpassed in quality, performance and longevity.

Nibco MB597AF – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why use a vented ball valve on a sodium hypochlorite (bleach) line instead of a standard true union ball valve?
Bleach off-gasses. In a standard ball valve the closed body cavity traps that gas and lets caustic crystals form, which is what seizes the ball. The Nibco Chemtrol S51TB-V-BBV keeps all inner surfaces constantly wetted and vents the cavity to the upstream side when closed, so gas cannot accumulate and crystallize in the body. That is the whole reason to spend the money on the bleach version rather than a plain true union ball valve.
2) How does this valve connect to my piping, and can I thread it on?
Socket only. The S51TB-V-BBV has S socket solvent weld ends, so it cements directly onto CPVC Schedule 80 pipe. There is no threaded option on this valve, so if your line is threaded you will need transition adapters cemented into the sockets.
3) Can I service one side of the line without draining the whole system?
Yes. The Tru-Bloc design has a self-adjusting seat with both upstream and downstream blocking capability, so it stops flow when the union on the opposite side is broken to pull a section of pipe. That is the practical advantage over a standard true union ball valve, which only blocks in one direction.
4) What pipe sizes does the Nibco S51TB-V-BBV bleach ball valve come in?
Three sizes: 3 inch, 4 inch and 6 inch, all with Schedule 80 solvent weld sockets. Order 3 inch as MB597AF, 4 inch as MB597AH and 6 inch as MB597AK.
5) What is the pressure rating on the Chemtrol Tru-Bloc bleach valve?
150 psi at 73 degrees F, water, non-shock, full port. Rating drops as system temperature rises, which is normal for CPVC, so size your service conditions against the manufacturer's temperature derating curve.
6) Is this bleach valve approved for potable water systems?
It carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and meets ASTM F1970. It is also catalogued for lead-free applications, covering commercial plumbing, industrial and irrigation service.
7) What are the seals made of, and will they hold up to sodium hypochlorite?
Seat and seal material is FKM fluoroelastomer, with an FKM O-ring, which is the elastomer Chemtrol specifies for this bleach service valve rather than EPDM. Body is Corzan CPVC Schedule 80.
8) How do I identify this valve in a plant full of CPVC valves?
Light grey Corzan CPVC body with an orange handle. The orange handle is the visual flag for bleach service, useful when a facility standardizes valve colors by media.
9) Does this valve restrict flow in a 4 inch bleach feed line?
No. It is a full port ball valve, so the bore matches the nominal pipe size and there is no added pressure drop across the valve beyond the fittings. The 4 inch version is MB597AH.
