1) Will the Nibco U51TB-V-BBV bleach ball valve connect to socket CPVC pipe or do I need threaded fittings?
Either. The U51TB-V-BBV ships with universal ends, meaning both socket and female NPT threaded end connections are included, so you pick the joint at install time. That matters on a bleach line retrofit where the existing run is solvent welded on one side and threaded into a pump or strainer on the other. Both sizes offered, 1 inch and 2 inch, are universal end.
2) Why use a vented ball valve on a sodium hypochlorite line instead of a standard true union ball valve?
Bleach off-gasses. In a standard ball valve the closed body cavity traps liquid, gas accumulates, and caustic crystals form, which is what seizes the ball and blows the valve apart. The Tru-Bloc bleach valve vents the ball to the upstream side in the closed position and keeps all inner surfaces wetted, so the conditions for gas accumulation and caustic crystallization in the body cavity are removed. On a hypochlorite feed line that is the difference between a valve you can operate in two years and one you cannot.
3) Can I break the union on a Nibco Tru-Bloc valve to service the pump without draining the whole line?
That is what the Tru-Bloc design is for. The valve has a self-adjusting seat with upstream and downstream blocking capability, so it stops flow when an alternate union is removed for servicing the piping system. You can pull the downstream equipment with the valve closed and the line still holds.
4) Can I air test a CPVC bleach ball valve after installation?
No. Do not use or test the U51TB-V-BBV with compressed air or other gases. Hydrostatic test only. A thermoplastic valve failing under stored gas energy is a shrapnel event, not a leak.
5) Is the Nibco U51TB-V-BBV approved for potable water systems?
It carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and it is listed lead-free. It also meets ASTM F1970, the standard for thermoplastic valves in pressure applications. System uses named are commercial plumbing, industrial, irrigation and lead-free service.
6) What is the pressure rating on the Nibco U51TB-V-BBV CPVC ball valve?

FKM fluoroelastomer, used for both the seat seal and the O-ring. FKM is the elastomer specified for oxidizer service, which is why this valve carries it rather than EPDM. If your line is chemically mixed and something in it is incompatible with FKM, that is the spec to check before you order.

Corzan CPVC Schedule 80 is chosen where metal would fail: it will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, holds mechanical strength across a broad temperature range and performs underground. Schedule 80 is the heavy wall, which is why this is the industrial and chemical-service body rather than a Sch 40 irrigation part. It is also light enough to hang without the support metal needs.
10) How do I tell the bleach valve apart from the other CPVC valves on a chemical skid?
By the handle. The body is light grey CPVC like the rest of the run, but the U51TB-V-BBV carries an orange handle, which is how a facility crew spots the hypochlorite service valve without reading the tag.
