All inner surfaces of the Tru-Bloc® bleach ball valve are kept constantly wetted and vented to the upstream side when the valve is in the closed position, eliminating the conditions required for gas accumulation and caustic crystallization in the body cavity. The Tru-Bloc® valve is engineered with a self-adjusting seat and upstream and downstream blocking capability to stop flow when an alternate union is removed for servicing the piping system. The valve can be easily joined with the universal socket and threaded end connections. Please refer to Chemtrol technical data sheets, valve selection guides and catalogs for engineering and installation information. PVC Schedule 80 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance properties and has the highest long-term hydrostatic strength of any other major thermoplastic material used for piping systems. Chemtrol PVC valves are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free, and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. Choose Chemtrol® valves for the most reliable, versatile and economical valve option in commercial and industrial applications. Chemtrol® valves are backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Because Chemtrol® is a NIBCO brand the flow-control valves are unsurpassed in quality, performance and longevity.

Nibco MA936UA – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a PVC ball valve hold up in a sodium hypochlorite (bleach) line without gassing off and locking up?
That is exactly what the Nibco Tru-Bloc bleach ball valve is built for. All inner surfaces stay constantly wetted and the ball is vented to the upstream side when the valve is closed, so chlorine gas cannot accumulate and caustic crystals cannot form in the body cavity, which is what seizes a standard ball valve on a hypochlorite line. The body is PVC Schedule 80 with FKM fluoroelastomer seals, and it is rated 250 psi at 73 degrees F on water, non-shock. One hard limit: do not use or test it with compressed air or other gases.
2) Do I have to order the Nibco U45TB socket or threaded, or does it come both ways?
You don't choose. The U45TB-V-BBV ships with universal end connections, meaning both socket and female NPT threaded ends are included in the box. Glue one side and thread the other if the piping calls for it. The only thing you specify is pipe size: 1/2, 3/4, 1, or 2 inch.
3) Can I break the union and pull a pump out of a bleach line without draining the whole system?
Yes, and that is the point of the Tru-Bloc design. It blocks both upstream and downstream, so when the alternate union is removed to service the piping, flow is stopped from either direction rather than just one. The seat is self-adjusting, so it keeps sealing as it wears instead of needing to be reset. Being a true union valve, the body comes out of the line without cutting pipe.
4) Is this Nibco valve NSF approved for potable water systems?
The Tru-Bloc bleach ball valve carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and it also meets ASTM F1970. It is listed as a lead-free application item and is used in commercial plumbing, industrial, and irrigation service.
5) What is the difference between the vented ball bleach valve and a standard PVC true union ball valve?
A standard true union ball valve traps liquid in the ball cavity when it is closed. On sodium hypochlorite that trapped volume off-gasses and crystallizes, and the next person to turn the handle finds it frozen or gets a face full of pressure. The vented ball version relieves that cavity back to the upstream side and keeps the internals wetted, so the failure mode goes away. Use the standard valve on water, irrigation, or general chemical duty; use this one anywhere bleach sits static in the line.
6) Can I pressure test a PVC bleach ball valve with air?
No. Do not use or test this valve with compressed air or other gases. Thermoplastic valves and piping store energy under gas pressure and fail without warning, so testing is done hydrostatically. The 250 psi at 73 degrees F rating is a water, non-shock rating, and it drops as temperature rises.
7) Are the seals on the Nibco U45TB EPDM or Viton type?
FKM fluoroelastomer, the Viton-type material, on both the seat seal and the O-ring. That is the right elastomer choice for oxidizers like sodium hypochlorite, where EPDM has a shorter service life. If you need the valve for a different chemical, check the compatibility of FKM with it first, since the elastomer, not the PVC body, is usually what sets the limit.
8) Will a Schedule 80 PVC valve mate to my existing Schedule 40 PVC bleach line?
Yes on the socket side. Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC share the same outside diameters at a given nominal size, so a Schedule 80 socket takes Schedule 40 pipe with standard PVC solvent cement. The threaded end is female NPT, so it takes a threaded male adapter either way. What Schedule 80 buys you is wall thickness and pressure capacity, which is why this valve body is Schedule 80 even where the line is not.
9) Why does the Nibco bleach valve have an orange handle?
The orange handle is a service marking. On a plant or pump room where grey PVC Schedule 80 line valves all look alike, orange flags the one on hypochlorite duty so nobody swaps in a standard valve during a repair. The body itself is dark grey.
