2) Can I use a CPVC ball check valve on a compressed air line?
No. The T51BC-V and the rest of the Chemtrol CPVC line are for liquid service only, and the instructions specifically say do not use or test the valve with compressed air or other gases. Use it on water and chemical liquid lines, and pressure test hydrostatically.
3) What pressure and temperature can the T51BC-V handle?
150 psi at 73 F on water, non-shock, with a maximum service temperature of 210 F. The 150 psi figure is the rating at 73 F; thermoplastic pressure ratings drop as temperature climbs, so size your system around the actual operating temperature rather than the 73 F number.
4) Do I have to cut the pipe out to service this check valve?
No. The Chemtrol true union design lets you back off the union nuts and lift the valve body and internal components out of the line for repair or ball replacement, leaving the threaded end connectors in place on the piping. That is the main reason to spec a true union check valve over a solid-body one in a system you expect to maintain.
5) Is the T51BC-V approved for potable water?
It carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 certification and is listed as a lead-free application product, and it also meets ASTM F1970 for thermoplastic valves. That covers commercial plumbing, industrial, and irrigation service.

8) Does a ball check valve need to be installed in a particular orientation?
Yes, orientation matters. A ball check relies on the ball unseating with flow and returning to the seat to stop reverse flow, so install it with the flow arrow in the direction of normal flow.
