Sta-Kon F9021 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon F9021 ferrule take?
The F9021 wire ferrule is sized for 10 AWG conductor, which is the 6 mm2 metric equivalent called out in the part description. If you are terminating 12 AWG or 8 AWG stranded wire, this is the wrong barrel size, use the ferrule matched to that cross-section instead.
2) Is the F9021 ferrule insulated or bare metal?
Bare. The F9021 is a non-insulated ferrule, copper with a metallic finish and no plastic collar. That means no color-coded insulation to identify wire size on the panel, and no strain relief over the wire jacket, so it suits terminals where the insulated collar would not fit in the clamp throat. If you want a color-coded, jacket-supporting crimp, order an insulated ferrule of the same 6 mm2 size.
3) Does the Sta-Kon F9021 ferrule carry a UL file number for inspection?
Yes. The F9021 is covered under UL file E489056, which is the number to cite if an electrical inspector or a spec reviewer asks for the listing on the termination. Country of origin is Germany.
4) Why use a ferrule on stranded wire going into a breaker or terminal block?
A ferrule gathers the strands of a stranded conductor into one solid pin so the terminal screw clamps the whole bundle instead of pinching and shearing individual strands. It keeps strays out of adjacent poles and holds torque better over thermal cycling. The F9021 does that job for 10 AWG / 6 mm2 stranded wire. It is not for solid conductor, which needs no ferrule.
5) Will a copper ferrule like the F9021 work on aluminum conductor?
No. The F9021 is copper and is intended for copper conductor. Aluminum needs a connector rated for aluminum or AL/CU with the appropriate inhibitor compound, otherwise you get galvanic corrosion at the joint.
6) What is the exact part number to order for this Sta-Kon ferrule?
Order Sta-Kon F9021. That is the manufacturer part number for the non-insulated 10 AWG / 6 mm2 ferrule with the .709 inch barrel, and it is the only model on the item, so there is no size or finish choice to specify.
