1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon C71NP ring terminal take?
The C71NP is sized for 12 to 10 AWG conductor. One crimp barrel covers both gauges, so a panel built with a mix of 12 and 10 AWG branch wiring can be terminated with a single part number. Anything smaller than 12 AWG will not hold in the barrel and anything larger than 10 will not enter it.
2) Is this a ring terminal with insulation, or bare metal?
Bare. The C71NP is a non-insulated terminal, so there is no nylon or vinyl sleeve over the barrel. That matters two ways: you supply your own heat shrink or sleeving if the application needs strain relief or phase color coding, and the exposed barrel is fine in high-temperature spots where an insulated sleeve would be the limiting part.
3) What is the Sta-Kon C71NP made of, and is it OK on an aluminum busbar?
The terminal body is copper with a nickel plating. Copper-bodied lugs are intended for copper conductor. For aluminum conductor you need a lug rated AL/CU (dual rated); this one is not, so do not crimp it onto aluminum wire. Bolting a copper lug to an aluminum bar is a dissimilar metal joint and should be handled with the appropriate bimetallic hardware or anti-oxidant per the equipment instructions.
4) Do I need a special crimp tool for a non-insulated 12-10 AWG ring terminal?
Use a non-insulated crimper, not an insulated one. Non-insulated barrels are crimped with an indenter or oval die set in the red/yellow 12-10 AWG range; the color-coded nests on an insulated terminal tool are sized for the plastic sleeve and will not form this bare barrel correctly. One crimp per terminal, then pull-test the first one off the reel setting.
