1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon B14-4 ring terminal crimp onto?
The B14-4 is sized for 18 to 14 AWG stranded copper wire. One barrel covers that whole range, so a panel using a mix of 18, 16 and 14 AWG control wire can be terminated with a single terminal part number and one die setting.
2) Can the Sta-Kon B14-4 be used on 480V control wiring?
Yes. The terminal carries a 600 V rating, which covers 120, 240, 277 and 480 V circuits. It is also UL listed under file E9809.
3) Is this ring terminal insulated, and does that matter for my application?
It is a non-insulated terminal, bare copper with no sleeve. That means no strain relief and no dielectric cover at the barrel, so it is intended for use inside enclosures, under terminal covers, or where you add your own heat shrink. For exposed field wiring where adjacent terminals could touch, use an insulated (nylon or vinyl) ring instead.
4) Will a ring terminal work better than a fork terminal for vibrating equipment?
A closed ring like the B14-4 cannot back off the stud if the screw loosens, which is why ring tongues are specified for motors, pumps, HVAC blowers and anything that vibrates. A fork or spade tongue installs faster because you do not have to remove the screw, but it can slip out. The tradeoff: with the B14-4 you must pull the #4 screw completely to land the wire.
5) Is the B14-4 terminal copper or aluminum, and can I use it on aluminum conductors?
The barrel is copper, so it is for copper conductors only. Terminating aluminum wire requires an AL/CU rated connector with the appropriate inhibitor compound, not a bare copper terminal.
