NSi Industries Polaris Vision Tap™ Insulated 2-Port Connector, 1/0-14 AWG

The NSi Industries Polaris Vision Tap™ is an insulated 2-port tap connector engineered for reliable wire termination from 1/0 through 14 AWG. Built with a clear molded Plastisol body for a single-sided entry (SSE) installation, this connector is rated 600V and 90°C, and is cULus listed for dry-location use. It's the go-to choice for electricians who need a fast, code-compliant tap connection in panelboards, service entrance work, and general branch-circuit wiring.

Key Features

  • Wire Range: Accepts 1/0 - 14 AWG conductors, giving installers flexibility to tap a wide range of conductor sizes with a single connector.
  • Durable Construction: Molded clear Plastisol insulation resists abrasion and provides a visible view of the conductor connection.
  • Single-Sided Entry (SSE): Simplifies installation by allowing wires to be inserted from one side, speeding up termination in tight enclosures.
  • 2-Port Configuration: Designed for 2 conductors per connector, ideal for straightforward tap and splice applications.
  • Voltage & Temperature Rating: Rated 600V and 90°C for demanding electrical termination applications.
  • Wire Type Compatibility: Suitable for Class B & C stranded conductors.
  • Application: Purpose-built for wire termination in dry locations only.

NSi IT-4C – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I use a Polaris Vision Tap insulated connector outdoors or in a wet handhole?
No. The Polaris Vision Tap insulated tap connector is rated for dry locations only, so it should not go in a wet or damp handhole, pull box, or underground vault. Keep it inside panelboards, load centers, and enclosures that stay dry. For a wet-location tap you need a submersible-rated connector instead.
2) What wire sizes does the NSi Polaris Vision Tap 2-port connector handle?
Three wire ranges are offered across the Vision Tap 2-port line: 1/0 to 14 AWG (IT-1/0C), 3/0 to 6 AWG (IT-3/0C), and 4 to 14 AWG (IT-4C). Pick by the largest conductor you are landing, then confirm your smallest conductor is still inside that same range, since both ports have to fall within it.
3) Will a 2-port tap connector work if I need to land three conductors?
No. The Vision Tap 2-port body takes two conductors, one per port. A three-wire tap needs a 3-port connector. Don't double up two wires in a single port to make it fit.
4) Is the NSi Polaris Vision Tap rated for 480V and THHN at 90 degrees C?
Yes on both counts. The insulated tap connector carries a 600V rating, which covers 120/240V, 208V and 480V systems, and it is rated 90 degrees C, matching the 90 degree C insulation rating on THHN/THWN-2 building wire. cULus listed.
5) Which Vision Tap part number should I order for a 2/0 service tap?
For 2/0 conductors, order IT-3/0C, the 3/0 to 6 AWG range. The IT-1/0C tops out at 1/0 and the IT-4C tops out at 4 AWG, so neither will accept 2/0.
6) Can I use these connectors with compact or fine-stranded welding cable?
The Vision Tap insulated connectors are specified for Class B and Class C stranded conductors, which is standard building-wire stranding. Fine-stranded cable such as welding lead or DLO is a different stranding class and is not what this connector is listed for.
7) What does single-sided entry mean on a tap connector, and why would I want it?
Single-sided entry means both conductors go in from the same face of the connector, so you work from one direction instead of feeding wire in from opposite ends. In a crowded panel gutter or a shallow load center that saves you room and lets you dress the conductors one way. Dual-entry connectors, by contrast, take wires from both ends and suit a straight in-line splice better.
8) Do I still need to tape or insulate a Polaris tap connector after I land the wires?
No separate insulating is needed. The connector body is molded Plastisol insulation rated 600V and 90 degrees C, so it's an insulated tap out of the box, unlike a bare split-bolt or mechanical lug that has to be taped or covered after termination.
9) Why is the body clear on the NSi Polaris Vision Tap?
The insulation is molded clear Plastisol, so you can see the conductor seated in the port. That lets an installer or an inspector confirm the wire is fully inserted past the setscrew without taking the connection apart.
10) Can I use this tap connector for aluminum conductors?
The NSi Vision Tap insulated connector is specified for Class B and C stranded conductors within its stated AWG range and carries a cULus listing; conductor material suitability is set by that listing marking on the connector itself, so match the AL/CU marking on the part to the conductor you're landing.
