Metallics JWNCF3 Nuts 8-32 Wing Nut Forge-St (Jar 100)

It's an 8-32 wing nut, so it threads onto a #8 machine screw or stud with 32 threads per inch, made to the ANSI/ASME B18.17 thread standard. If the screw in your box or fixture is a #8-32 (the common size for device straps, fixture studs and ground screws), this nut mates with it. A #10-24 or 1/4-20 stud will not.

Cold forged steel with a zinc finish. Forged steel gives you more grip strength than a cast or stamped nut when you're hand-tightening, and the zinc plating handles normal indoor and protected outdoor exposure. For continuously wet or corrosive service, stainless would be the better choice.

A wing nut tightens and loosens by hand, no socket or wrench needed, which is why it gets used where a cover, guard, or fixture part has to come off regularly for service or relamping. The tradeoff is torque: you can only tighten it as hard as your fingers allow, so for structural or vibration-prone connections a hex nut with a lock washer is the better call.
