NUVO Lighting 60-6859 – Frequently Asked Questions

    1) Can the NUVO Alondra 60-6859 sconce go in a bathroom over a vanity?
Yes. The Alondra 1-light sconce carries a damp location rating and is classified as an indoor fixture, so a bathroom vanity or powder room wall is within its rating. It is not rated for wet locations, so keep it out of a shower enclosure or anywhere exposed to direct spray or weather. NUVO lists it under vanity and wall applications.
    2) How much wall space does the Alondra sconce take up, and how far does it stick out?
It measures 4.75 inches wide and 17.25 inches tall, with a 7 inch extension off the wall. The 7 inch projection is the number to watch in a narrow hallway or beside a door swing, and the 17.25 inch height means you need clear wall above and below the junction box, so it is a tall vertical sconce rather than a compact one.
    3) Is the NUVO Alondra 60-6859 sconce ADA compliant for a commercial corridor?
No. NUVO lists the Alondra as not ADA compliant, and its 7 inch extension from the wall is the reason: ADA protrusion limits for wall-mounted objects in circulation paths are 4 inches. For a hallway or egress corridor in a commercial or multi-family building, choose an ADA-listed sconce with a projection of 4 inches or less. The Alondra works in rooms, vanities, and locations outside the accessible route.
    4) Is this NUVO sconce safety listed for a permitted job?
The Alondra is cETLus listed, which covers both US and Canadian requirements and is accepted by inspectors as an equivalent to UL listing. Combined with the damp location rating, that covers typical interior residential and light commercial installs.
    5) Will a standard single-gang wall box support this sconce?
The fixture weighs 2.47 lbs, so weight is not a concern for a properly secured wall box. It is a wall mount fixture and ships with a steel body, and the hardware set is sized for standard box mounting. Verify your box is fastened to framing or a bracket, not just to drywall.
    6) Can I put an LED bulb in the Alondra 60-6859 instead of incandescent?
Yes, as long as it is an E26 medium base lamp and does not exceed 60W. The fixture is built around incandescent technology with no integrated LED and no selectable color temperature, so whatever lamp you choose sets the brightness, color, and whether it dims. A clear filament style LED suits the clear glass since the bulb is in plain view.
    7) Does the NUVO Alondra sconce carry a California Prop 65 warning?
Yes. Lead is listed as a Prop 65 chemical for this fixture. If you are buying for a California property, that warning needs to pass through to your submittal or tenant documentation.
