NUVO Lighting 65-849 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What mount comes with the NUVO 65-849 area light, and will it fit my existing pole?
The 65-849 ships with a 2-3/8 inch slip-fitter mount, so it slides over a 2-3/8 inch outside-diameter tenon or davit arm and clamps down. If your poles have a square drill pattern for a direct arm mount instead of a round tenon, this head will not bolt up without an adapter.
2) Can the NUVO 65-849 run on 208V or 277V house power?
It accepts any line voltage from 120V through 277V, so the same fixture works on 120, 208, 240 and 277V service without ordering a different part. That is the usual reason to standardize on one SKU across a multi-building site.
3) Is the NUVO 65-849 rated for open weather on a pole top?
Yes, it is a wet location rated outdoor fixture, cULus certified, with a die-cast aluminum housing. That covers direct rain and snow exposure on an exposed pole or building-mounted arm.
4) Will the 5000K color temperature match the other area lights already on my property?
The 65-849 is fixed at 5000K with 80 CRI, and it is not CCT selectable, so there is no field switch to dial it to 4000K. 5000K reads as a cool white and will look noticeably bluer next to 4000K heads or older high pressure sodium. If your site is standardized at 4000K, order the matching CCT instead of mixing.
5) Is a Type III distribution the right pattern for a parking lot perimeter?
Type III throws light forward and to the sides in an asymmetric pattern, which is what you want on poles set along the edge of a lot or a roadway shoulder where the light needs to reach out into the drive lane but not spill behind the pole. For poles in the middle of a lot with parking on both sides, a Type V (square/round symmetric) head covers better. The 65-849 is the Type III, 300W version.
6) How many 1000W metal halide or HPS fixtures can a 300W LED area light replace?
The 65-849 puts out 38,988 lumens at 300W draw. Compare that against the delivered lumens of the head you are pulling down rather than the lamp rating, since a HID fixture loses a large share of its lamp lumens in the reflector and over its life. Rated life here is 50,000 hours, which is the figure that actually drives the relamping savings on a pole you need a lift to reach.
7) Can I put the 65-849 on a dimmer or tie it into a lighting control system?
The fixture is dimmable, so it can be driven down by a compatible 0-10V type controller for late-night setback. The driver is integral and the LEDs are not replaceable, so any control scheme has to work with the onboard driver.
8) Does the LED area light come with lamps, or do I need to order them separately?
Nothing extra to buy. The LEDs are integrated into the fixture, so there is no lamp or base to source. The flip side is that there is no relamping at end of life, the head gets replaced.
9) Does the NUVO 65-849 carry a California Prop 65 warning?
Yes, lead is listed as a Prop 65 chemical for this fixture. It is RoHS compliant. If you are supplying a California public project, the Prop 65 notice needs to carry through on your submittal paperwork.
