1) Can Oatey 30918 ABS cement be used on PVC or CPVC pipe?
No. The Oatey 30918 Extra Special Medium Body Black Cement is formulated for ABS pipe and fittings only. For PVC or CPVC you need a cement made for that resin. It also won't work as a transition cement between ABS and PVC, which requires a dedicated ABS-to-PVC transition cement.
2) What size ABS pipe will the Oatey 30918 medium body cement handle?
It covers all schedules and classes of ABS pipe and fittings up to 6 inch diameter with interference fit. Above 6 inch, you'd move to a heavy body cement.
3) Is this ABS cement approved for pressure lines, or drain waste and vent only?
Non-pressure applications only. The 30918 is a DWV cement for drain, waste and vent ABS systems, and the formula is aimed at hot and arid climates. Don't use it on a pressure line.
4) What temperature can I solvent weld ABS at with Oatey 30918?
The recommended application window is 40 to 110 degrees F (4 to 43 degrees C). That rules out cold-weather work below 40 F, where you'd want a cement rated for low temperatures. Once cured, the joint carries a maximum use temperature of 82 degrees C.
5) Is Oatey 30918 low VOC enough for California air quality districts?
Yes. It is a low VOC solvent cement meeting SCAQMD Rule 1168/316A or BAAQMD Method 40 requirements, which is what gets it accepted on jobs in the South Coast and Bay Area districts. Oatey's solvent cement and primer products are also certified to UL Greenguard Gold.

7) Why choose a medium body ABS cement instead of a regular body?
Medium viscosity fills gaps more readily and gives you more working time before the joint sets, which helps on larger fittings and on looser interference fits. A thinner regular body cement sets faster and is easier to use on small diameter pipe; a heavy body is for larger diameters than the 6 inch ceiling here.
