OATEY 34160 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size water heater will the Oatey 34160 plastic drain pan fit?
The 34160 is an 18 inch plastic pan, so it suits a water heater whose base diameter measures under 18 inches. Measure the tank jacket at its widest point, not the nameplate capacity, since two heaters of the same gallon rating can differ in diameter. Anything larger needs the next pan size up.
2) Is the Oatey 18 inch pan plastic or metal, and does that matter for a gas water heater?
It's a plastic pan. Plastic is the usual choice under electric heaters and in most residential closets; where a code official or the heater manufacturer requires a metal pan under a gas fired unit, use a galvanized or aluminum pan instead of this one.
3) What is the Oatey part number I should order for the 18 inch plastic water heater pan?
Order Oatey 34160. That is the manufacturer part number for the 18 inch plastic pan, and it is the number to give a distributor or put on a submittal.
4) Does the Oatey 18 inch plastic pan come with a drain fitting or adapter?
The 34160 is supplied as the pan itself. Plan on ordering the drain adapter or fitting and the drain line separately when the pan has to be piped to an indirect waste or to the exterior.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 34160 pan, and can one person handle it on a service call?
It weighs about 1.583 lb, so it is a one hand carry. For a property manager stocking several units for turnovers, a case of them takes up almost no truck space.
6) Where can I get the spec sheet for the Oatey 34160 pan for a submittal package?
Oatey publishes a spec sheet for the 34160, and it is linked directly from the product information for the 18 inch plastic pan. That sheet is what to drop into a submittal or an inspection binder.
