OATEY 34058 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Oatey 34058 pan plastic or metal, and can I use it under a gas water heater?
It's a plastic pan. Plastic pans are standard under electric water heaters and in closet or attic installations where the pan only has to catch condensate and small leaks. For gas-fired heaters, many jurisdictions and manufacturers call for a metal (galvanized or aluminum) pan because of the burner and flue heat at the base, so check your local code and the heater's instructions before putting a plastic pan under a gas unit.
2) Will a 24 inch plastic pan work for a washing machine or an air handler instead of a water heater?
A 24 inch round pan like the Oatey 34058 is shaped for a cylindrical water heater base. Washing machines and air handlers have rectangular footprints and generally need a rectangular pan sized to the unit, so measure the equipment base before substituting this one.
3) What model number do I order for the Oatey 24 inch plastic water heater pan?
Order Oatey part number 34058. That is the single model on the pan, so there are no size or color options to specify beyond the 24 inch diameter.
