OATEY 34163 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size water heater will the Oatey 34163 plastic pan fit?
The Oatey 34163 is a 24 inch plastic water heater pan, so it suits tanks with a base diameter that fits inside 24 inches. Measure the outside diameter of the heater's jacket at the floor, not the nominal gallon rating, since two 40 gallon tanks can differ in footprint. If the jacket measures wider than the inside of the pan, step up to a larger diameter pan.
2) Does the 24 inch Oatey plastic pan come with a drain fitting or adapter?
The 34163 is sold as the pan itself. Plan on a separate pan drain fitting or adapter to tie the pan into a drain line, plus whatever pipe and fittings run it to the termination point. Property managers ordering several of these for a unit turn should add the fittings to the same order so the install isn't held up.
3) Can I use this pan under a washing machine instead of a water heater?
A 24 inch round plastic pan is sized to a water heater footprint, not a washer. Washing machines are square and typically need a 30 by 32 inch rectangular pan to catch a leak at the corners. For a washer, look for a rectangular washing machine pan rather than the 34163.
4) How heavy is the Oatey 34163 pan for shipping and handling?
About 2.167 pounds. It's a one hand carry, which is part of why plastic pans get specified for upper floor water heater closets where a crew is hauling material up stairs.
