OATEY 34061 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size water heater will the Oatey 34061 drain pan fit?
The Oatey 34061 is a 20 inch plastic pan, so it suits a water heater whose base diameter is under 20 inches. Measure the tank base, not the jacket at its widest point, and leave clearance for the pan wall. If the heater base is larger than 20 inches, step up to the next pan diameter instead of forcing it.
2) Is the Oatey 34061 pan plastic or steel, and does that matter for a gas water heater?
It is a plastic pan. Plastic is the common choice under electric water heaters and in closets or lofts where corrosion is the concern. Under a gas-fired heater many local inspectors want a metal pan because of the burner below, so check what your jurisdiction accepts before setting a plastic pan under gas.
3) Does the Oatey 34061 20 inch pan come with a drain fitting or adapter?
The 34061 is sold as the pan itself, model number 34061. Plan on supplying the drain adapter and the PVC or CPVC pipe run to the termination point separately, along with any sealant the adapter calls for.
4) How heavy is the Oatey 34061 pan for shipping or stocking on a van?
Roughly 0.95 lb, with a shipping volume of 0.713. It nests and stacks easily, which is why property maintenance crews often carry a couple on the truck for heater swaps.
