OATEY 76042 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Oatey 76042 sediment drain connect to?
The Oatey 76042 sediment drain has a 2 inch PVC outlet, so it solvent-welds to 2 inch PVC DWV pipe. There is no threaded or no-hub option on this model, the connection is PVC to PVC.
2) Does the Oatey 76042 come with a sediment bucket?
No. The 76042 ships as the PVC drain body with the cast iron grate only, no sediment bucket included. If your application needs the bucket to catch solids, you need the bucket version of the drain instead, or source the bucket separately.
3) Is the grate on the Oatey 2 inch sediment drain metal or plastic?
The grate is cast iron, mounted on a PVC body. That combination suits areas that see cart or foot traffic where a plastic strainer would flex or crack, while keeping the drain body and outlet in PVC for solvent-weld piping.
4) What is a sediment drain used for versus a standard floor drain?
A sediment drain is placed where runoff carries grit, sand, or debris, mop sink areas, mechanical rooms, wash-down bays, so the solids are held at the drain instead of going down the line. The Oatey 76042 is the grate-only version, meaning it screens debris at the cast iron grate but does not collect it in a bucket below.
5) Is the Oatey 76042 a 2 inch drain by outlet or by grate size?
The 2 inch figure is the drain base size, the pipe connection. It is not the grate dimension, so size your piping off the 2 inch outlet and plan the slab opening around the cast iron grate itself.
