OATEY 76036 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the sediment bucket in the Oatey 76036 drain actually do, and do I have to maintain it?
The bucket sits under the grate and catches sand, grit, hair and debris before it reaches the drain line, which is why these are used in car wash bays, mop rooms, mechanical rooms and garage floors. It is a maintenance item by design: the bucket lifts out so a janitor or maintenance tech can dump it and drop it back in. Plan on periodic cleanout, otherwise the bucket fills and the drain slows.
2) Is the grate on the Oatey 6 inch sediment drain strong enough for foot and cart traffic?
The 76036 comes with a cast iron grate rather than a plastic one, which is why it gets specified for floors that see mop carts, hand trucks and heavy foot traffic. The drain body itself is PVC, so the cast iron is doing the load bearing at the surface.
3) Do I order the bucket and grate separately for the Oatey 76036?
No. The 76036 ships as a complete assembly: PVC drain body, cast iron grate and the sediment bucket. You supply the 6 inch PVC pipe, primer and solvent cement for the connection.
4) How heavy is the Oatey 76036 drain assembly?
It comes in at 5.8 pounds complete, grate and bucket included. That is a one-hand carry for a plumber, and light enough that the PVC body does not need extra support beyond normal pipe strapping, though the cast iron grate accounts for most of that weight.
