1) What roof pitch will the Oatey 11888 vent flashing work on?
It's built for pitches from 0 to 45 degrees, so it covers everything from a dead-flat deck up through a steep 12/12 roof. Past 45 degrees you need a pitched-specific flashing.
2) Can I use this Oatey thermoplastic flashing on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 11888 thermoplastic base is specifically not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. The heat and asphalt application aren't compatible with the plastic base. For a BUR or hot-mop assembly, use a lead or galvanized roof flashing instead.
3) Will this Oatey flashing handle hot vent gases from a gas appliance?
It's rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and approved for Type B installations, so it will take the temperatures of a Type B vent run. Keep in mind the rating is continuous 180 F, not higher-temperature single-wall flue applications.
4) Can I paint the Oatey 11888 flashing to match the roof?
Don't. Petroleum based products and paint should not be applied to the flashing collar or the plastic base, they degrade the material and can break the seal at the pipe. That also rules out roofing cements and sealants with petroleum solvents anywhere on the collar.
5) How much roof coverage does the 11888 base give me?
The base is 18 by 18 inches of thermoplastic, which gives you a generous flange to shingle over on all four sides of a 2 inch stack. Shipping weight is about 1.05 lbs, so it's a light one-hand carry up the ladder.
6) Do I need to caulk around the pipe after setting this roof vent flashing?
No caulking at the pipe. The collar on the 11888 is self-sealing and grips the 2 inch stack as it slides down. You still flash the base into the shingle courses the normal way, with the upper flange under the course above it.
