That is exactly what the Oatey 43551 brass replacement ring is for. It replaces rusted or corroded metal toilet flange rings without replacing the whole flange body. On a cast iron installation you remove the old flange, then drop the ring into the vertical cast iron drainpipe.
2) Will the Oatey 43551 brass ring work on a PVC toilet flange?
Yes, on 4 inch PVC or ABS closet flanges. The brass ring sits on top and takes the closet bolts, so you reuse the plastic flange body you already have in the floor.
3) Does the 43551 flange ring come with screws and closet bolts?
No fasteners are included. The brass ring has 3 countersunk holes for floor screws and 3 closet bolt slots, so plan on supplying the floor screws and a pair of closet bolts with it.
4) Why choose a brass toilet flange ring over a steel or stainless repair ring?
Corrosion is the reason the old ring failed in the first place. The 43551 is solid brass, which does not rust the way a plated steel ring does, so it is the usual pick in a bathroom where the original metal ring corroded through. Steel repair rings are thinner and cheaper to make but put you back in the same situation in a wet or high-use restroom.
