OATEY O84197 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I glue the Oatey 84197 cleanout to PVC pipe instead of ABS?
It is an ABS cleanout, so it is intended for solvent welding to ABS DWV pipe. On a PVC system, use a PVC-bodied cleanout rather than this one, or a mechanical transition fitting. Mixing ABS cement joints into PVC is not a connection you want buried in a floor.
2) What size is the chrome cover on the Oatey 84197 cleanout?
The cover is 6 inches, in chrome, and comes with a round ring. If you are cutting the opening in a finished floor, size the hole for the cleanout body and plan on a 6 inch chrome face showing at the surface.
3) Is the Oatey 84197 a floor cleanout for a finished floor or just a rough cleanout?
It is a general purpose cleanout with a 6 inch chrome cover and round ring, which is what you use where the access point shows in a finished floor. A plain ABS plug with no cover plate is the rough-in version for unfinished areas.
4) I manage apartments and need one cleanout part for both 3 inch and 4 inch lines. Will this cover both?
Yes, which is the reason to stock it. One Oatey 84197 serves 3 inch and 4 inch ABS drain lines, so maintenance carries a single SKU instead of two, and the chrome 6 inch cover matches across units.
5) What is the Oatey part number to order for a 3 or 4 inch ABS cleanout with a chrome cover?
Order Oatey 84197. That number covers the ABS general purpose cleanout with the 6 inch chrome cover and round ring, sized for 3 inch or 4 inch pipe.
