OATEY 74198 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Oatey 74198 cleanout connect to 4 inch PVC DWV pipe?
Yes. The Oatey 74198 has a 4 inch PVC pipe base, so it solvent-welds to standard 4 inch PVC DWV pipe. The connection type is PVC, meaning it is glued, not threaded into cast iron or ABS. If your drain line is 4 inch cast iron or ABS, this is the wrong base material for a direct joint.
2) What size access cover comes on the Oatey 74198 general purpose cleanout?
It comes with a 6 inch round cover in chrome, mounted in a round ring. The 6 inch cover sits over a 4 inch pipe base, so the finished opening you see in the floor is wider than the pipe itself. Plan the tile or slab cut accordingly.
3) Do I order the cover and ring separately with the Oatey 74198?
No, it ships as a complete assembly: 4 inch PVC pipe base, 6 inch chrome cover and round ring. You supply the 4 inch PVC pipe, primer and solvent cement. The model number to order is 74198.
4) Is a chrome cleanout cover appropriate for a finished floor in a commercial restroom?
Chrome is the finish typically specified where the cover is visible, which is what this one is for, a 6 inch round chrome cover and ring over a general purpose 4 inch cleanout. For slabs that get covered over or for utility areas, a plain or nickel bronze cover is the more common pick. Property managers standardizing restroom floors usually go chrome so all the covers match.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 74198 cleanout, and how much space does it take on the truck?
Listed weight is 4 pounds, with a shipping volume of 0.147. It is a one piece assembly, light enough to carry in with the rest of the rough-in materials.
