OATEY 74168 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How big is the cover on the Oatey 74168 cleanout and what is it made of?
It comes with a 6 inch nickel bronze cover and a round ring. The cover diameter is larger than the 4 inch pipe base, so plan your finished floor opening around the 6 inch round ring, not the pipe.
2) Is the Oatey 74168 a floor cleanout for finished floors?
Yes. It is a general purpose cleanout assembly with a PVC pipe base that glues into the 4 inch drain line and a 6 inch nickel bronze cover and round ring that finishes flush at the floor surface. The nickel bronze cover is the usual choice where the access point lands in a visible, walked-on floor rather than in a crawlspace or mechanical room.
3) Does the Oatey 74168 need a solvent weld connection or does it thread onto the pipe?
The base is PVC and joins to 4 inch PVC DWV pipe with standard PVC solvent cement and primer. Neither the primer nor the cement ships with the cleanout, so add those to the order if you do not have them on the truck.
4) What is the manufacturer part number for the Oatey 4 inch PVC cleanout with the 6 inch nickel bronze cover?
Order it as Oatey 74168. That is the part number for the 4 inch PVC pipe base general purpose cleanout supplied with the 6 inch nickel bronze cover and round ring as a complete assembly.
