OATEY 74167 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use the Oatey 74167 cleanout on cast iron or ABS drain pipe?
No. The 74167 is a PVC-bodied cleanout with a PVC connection, so it bonds only to PVC DWV pipe with PVC solvent cement. On cast iron you would need a cleanout made for that system or a transition coupling ahead of the PVC; ABS needs an ABS cleanout or a proper ABS-to-PVC transition, since ABS and PVC cements are not interchangeable.
2) What size cover does the Oatey 74167 cleanout come with, and what finish?
It comes with a 6 inch round cover in nickel, along with a round ring. The 6 inch face is what you see in the finished floor, so plan your tile or concrete opening around that diameter rather than the 3 or 4 inch pipe size below it.
3) Is the cover and ring included with the Oatey 74167, or do I order those separately?
Included. The 74167 ships as a general purpose cleanout with the 6 inch nickel cover and the round ring together, so the only thing you supply on site is PVC solvent cement and primer for the pipe connection.
4) I need to standardize floor cleanouts across a building with 3 inch and 4 inch branches. Can I spec one part?
Yes, that is the point of this one. The Oatey 74167 serves both 3 inch and 4 inch PVC, so a property manager or MRO buyer can stock a single cleanout for both branch sizes and still get a matching 6 inch nickel cover on every opening.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 74167 cleanout for shipping and handling?
About 4 pounds, with a listed volume of 0.147. Light enough to carry a case of them to a riser without a cart.
