OATEY 74157 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Oatey 74157 cleanout fit 3 inch or 4 inch PVC drain pipe?
Both. The Oatey 74157 is a general purpose cleanout that works with 3 inch or 4 inch PVC, with a 4 inch base diameter. The body and connection are PVC, so it solvent welds to standard PVC DWV pipe rather than threading into cast iron or ABS.
2) What size is the cover on the Oatey 74157 cleanout and what is it made of?
It comes with a 6 inch round nickel finish cover. That gives you a wider finished face than the 4 inch base underneath, which helps hide the cut edge of tile or finished flooring around the opening.
3) Can I use a PVC cleanout like the Oatey 74157 on a cast iron or ABS line?
Not directly. The 74157 body and its connection are PVC, so it's made to solvent weld into a PVC DWV system. On cast iron or ABS you would need a cleanout matched to that material, or an approved transition coupling ahead of it.
4) Is the Oatey 74157 a floor cleanout or a wall cleanout?
It's a general purpose cleanout assembly, base plus 6 inch nickel cover, and it's used where you need an accessible access point on a 3 inch or 4 inch PVC drain line. The round nickel cover plate is the finished face you see after the floor or wall surface goes on.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 74157 cleanout assembly?
About 4 pounds for the complete assembly, listed at 0.147 in volume. Light enough to set by hand during rough-in, with most of the weight in the nickel cover rather than the PVC base.
