OATEY 74169 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 74169 cleanout connect to 4 inch PVC DWV pipe?
The 74169 has a 4 inch PVC hub base, so it takes 4 inch PVC DWV pipe solvent welded into the hub. It is not a threaded or no-hub connection, and it won't accept cast iron or ABS cementing.
2) What size is the cover on the Oatey 74169 general purpose cleanout?
It comes with a 6 inch nickel bronze cover and a round ring. The 6 inch cover sits over a 4 inch hub base, so the finished round opening in the slab or floor finish needs to clear the 6 inch ring, not just the 4 inch pipe.
3) Do I need to order the ring and cover separately for the Oatey 74169?
No. The 74169 is sold as an assembly: PVC hub base, round ring, and 6 inch nickel bronze cover. You supply only the 4 inch PVC pipe and solvent cement to set it.
4) Can I use the Oatey 74169 as a floor-level cleanout in a finished slab?
That's what it's built for. The PVC hub base is cemented to the 4 inch drain line and the nickel bronze cover sets flush at the finished floor, giving rodding access without opening the slab. Nickel bronze is the standard finish for exposed floor cleanout covers in commercial and multi-family spaces.
5) Is the Oatey 74169 cleanout cover round or square?
Round. The 74169 ships with a round ring and a 6 inch nickel bronze cover, so it is the one to order when the floor detail calls for a round access plate rather than a square one.
6) How heavy is the Oatey 74169 cleanout?
Listed product weight is 4 pounds, most of that in the nickel bronze cover and ring. Handling is a one-hand job; the weight matters mainly for freight on multi-unit orders.
