OATEY 88033 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 88033 roof drain take 3 inch or 4 inch pipe?
Both. The 88033 ABS roof drain accepts either 3 inch or 4 inch pipe, so one part covers the two most common residential and light commercial roof leader sizes. Handy if you are stocking a truck or standardizing across a group of buildings and do not yet know what diameter is coming out of the roof deck.
2) Does the Oatey 88033 come with the strainer dome, or do I have to buy that separately?
The ABS dome strainer is included, along with the dam collar. So out of the box you have the drain body, the dome that keeps leaves and debris out of the leader, and the collar. Nothing extra to order for the drain itself beyond cement and any roofing flashing or sealant the membrane detail calls for.
3) What does the dam collar on a roof drain actually do, and do I need it?
The dam collar sits around the drain to hold a shallow layer of water on the roof, which is how controlled-flow (restricted) roof drainage works. It is included with the 88033. If your design is straight free-flow drainage and the engineer does not want ponding, you simply leave the collar off and use the drain with the dome only.
4) What part number should I order for the Oatey ABS roof drain with dome and dam collar?
Order Oatey 88033. That is the manufacturer part number for the ABS roof drain supplied with the ABS dome and dam collar, sized for 3 inch or 4 inch pipe. Same number to quote if you are matching drains already installed on the building.
