1) Do I need to use a primer with Oatey Blue Lava PVC cement?
On non-pressure DWV work, no primer is needed where local codes permit. Plenty of jurisdictions still require purple primer on DWV regardless, and pressure applications are a different story, so check what your inspector wants before you skip it. Blue Lava is a very fast setting blue solvent cement for PVC and comes with a dauber in the can.
2) What size PVC pipe can Oatey 32163 Blue Lava cement be used on?
It works on all schedules and classes of PVC pipe and fittings up to 6 inch diameter with an interference fit. Above 6 inch you need a heavy-bodied cement rated for the larger diameter.
3) Can I use Blue Lava PVC cement in cold weather?
Recommended application temperature is 40 to 110 degrees F (4 to 43 degrees C). It's formulated for fast pressurization and joint strength development in all weather within that window, which is why crews reach for it on cold-morning repairs, but below 40 degrees F you're outside the recommendation.
4) Can I use this PVC cement on CPVC or ABS pipe?
No. Blue Lava is a PVC solvent cement, rated for PVC pipe and fittings only. CPVC needs a CPVC-specific cement, ABS needs ABS cement, and a PVC-to-ABS transition needs a green transition cement. Using the wrong solvent on CPVC or ABS gives you a joint that won't hold.
5) What jobs is Oatey 32163 intended for?
