1) What size PVC pipe can Oatey 31008 heavy duty clear cement be used on?
Oatey 31008 heavy duty clear PVC cement handles all schedules and classes of PVC pipe and fittings with an interference fit, up to 12 inch diameter on pressure pipe and up to 18 inch on non-pressure (DWV) lines. The heavy bodied formula is what makes those larger diameters work, since it fills the gap on loose fitting joints instead of running out of them.
2) Can I use this PVC cement on a potable water line?
Yes. The 31008 clear cement complies with NSF/ANSI 61 health effects requirements and is rated for potable water, along with DWV, pressure pipe, and electrical conduit work. It also meets ASTM D2564, the standard spec for PVC solvent cement that most plumbing codes and drawings call out.
3) How cold can it be outside when I glue PVC with Oatey 31008?
The recommended application window is 40 to 110 degrees F (4 to 43 degrees C). Below 40 the solvent flashes off too slowly and cure times stretch out badly; above 110 it sets before you can seat a large fitting. For winter work outside that range, you want a cold weather formulated cement instead.
4) Will Oatey 31008 work on CPVC or ABS pipe?
No. This is a PVC-only solvent cement. Joining CPVC needs a CPVC-specific cement, and ABS drain pipe needs ABS cement. For a PVC-to-ABS transition joint you need a transition cement, which is a different product again. Using PVC cement on the wrong material gives you a joint that looks fine and fails later.
5) Does Oatey 31008 clear cement meet low VOC rules in California?
It does. This is a low VOC solvent cement that meets the South Coast AQMD Rule 1168/316A and BAAQMD Method 40 requirements, so it is usable on jobs in those California districts. 6) Should I use heavy duty cement or a regular body PVC cement?

Regular or medium body cement is easier to work with on small diameter DWV and it wets into a tight fitting joint faster. If you are running 4 inch and up, or working in the field where fittings are not perfectly round, the heavy duty grade is the right call.
7) Is the 32 oz can of Oatey clear cement a good size for a crew stocking a truck?
The 32 oz can is the quart size, the common size for a plumber or GC running a full day of DWV or pressure work, and it weighs 2.302 lb.
