OATEY 82304 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Oatey 82304 commercial drain body made of?
ABS. The Oatey 82304 is an ABS-bodied adjustable commercial floor drain, so it solvent-welds into ABS DWV systems rather than threading in. If the rough-in on the job is PVC, you want the PVC version of the drain instead, since ABS and PVC are different solvents and different pipe systems.
2) Is the Oatey 82304 drain height adjustable after the rough-in is set?
Yes, it is an adjustable commercial drain, so the top assembly can be set to the finished floor height after the body is in place. That matters when the pour thickness or the tile and mortar bed is not final at rough-in time. Set the body low, then bring the square top and grate up flush once the floor goes down.
3) What size and material is the grate on the Oatey 82304 floor drain?
A 6 inch cast strainer in chrome. That is the visible round grate size at the finished floor, so plan the tile or concrete cut around a 6 inch strainer. Chrome plating is the typical choice where the drain lands in a finished commercial space rather than a back-of-house slab.
4) Does the Oatey 82304 have a round or square top?
A square top assembly carrying a round 6 inch cast chrome grate. The square top is what sits in the floor and gives you something to align to tile joints or a scored concrete pattern. If the spec on the drawing calls for a round top housing, this is not the matching part.
