OATEY 72346 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 72346 commercial drain connect to PVC pipe?
Yes. The 72346 is a PVC-bodied drain with a PVC connection, so it solvent-welds to PVC drain pipe. If the rough-in under the slab is cast iron or ABS, this is not a direct connection and you would need an appropriate transition or a drain built for that material.
2) Can the Oatey 72346 drain height be adjusted after the rough-in is set?
Yes, it's an adjustable commercial drain, so the strainer assembly can be raised or lowered to meet the finished floor height once the body is set in the slab. That is what makes it workable when the tile or topping thickness is not final at rough-in.
3) What size is the Oatey 72346 drain and its grate?
It is a 6 inch drain with a 6 inch cast grate and a round top. That grate diameter is what you need to match against the tile or finish opening you are cutting.
4) Is the grate on the Oatey 72346 plastic or metal?
The grate is cast metal in a chrome finish, not molded plastic, while the drain body itself is PVC. For a commercial floor with cart or foot traffic over the drain, that cast top is the part that takes the abuse.
5) What is the Oatey part number for the 6 inch PVC adjustable commercial drain with cast chrome grate?
Order it as Oatey 72346. That number covers the complete drain: PVC adjustable commercial body, 6 inch cast chrome grate, round top.
6) Will a chrome round drain grate match other chrome plumbing trim in a commercial restroom?
The top is chrome and round, so it reads with standard chrome finished trim and round strainers already common in restrooms and janitor areas. If you are standardizing a building on one look, the 6 inch round chrome grate is the one to spec across openings.
