OATEY 72324 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Oatey 72324 commercial floor drain connect to?
The 72324 is a 4 inch PVC drain, so it mates to 4 inch PVC DWV pipe at the outlet. Solvent weld the drain body to the 4 inch line; if your rough-in is a different size you need a different body, not an adapter at the grate.
2) Should I use an adjustable commercial drain like the Oatey 72324 or a fixed-height floor drain?
Pick the adjustable type when the finish floor thickness is not final at rough-in, or when tile, a mortar bed, or a topping slab goes over the slab after the drain is set. The 72324 lets you set the 4 inch PVC body first and raise the round top to meet the finished surface. A fixed drain only works when you know the exact floor elevation before the pour, which on commercial jobs is rarely true.
3) What size and finish is the grate on the Oatey 72324 drain?
It comes with a 5 inch cast chrome grate on a round top. Cast metal rather than plastic matters where carts, mop buckets, or foot traffic cross the drain, and the round 5 inch face is the opening you have to plan the tile cut or topping around.
4) What is the exact Oatey part number to order this 4 inch PVC adjustable drain with the chrome grate?
Order Oatey 72324. That part number covers the complete assembly: 4 inch PVC adjustable commercial drain body with the 5 inch cast chrome grate and round top.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 72324 drain assembly?
5.3 pounds for the complete assembly. That weight is mostly the cast metal top, which is why it holds up better under commercial traffic than an all plastic drain of the same 4 inch outlet size.
