OATEY 72314 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Oatey 72314 drain height be adjusted after the pipe is set?
Yes. The 72314 is an adjustable commercial drain, so the strainer assembly threads up and down within the body to bring the grate flush with the finished floor after the 4 inch PVC riser is in place. That is what lets you set rough plumbing before the slab pour or tile thickness is final.
2) Is the grate on the Oatey 72314 metal or plastic?
Cast nickel bronze, 5 inch round top. That matters for commercial traffic areas, mechanical rooms, and mop sinks where a plastic strainer gets stepped on and cracked, and it also gives you a finished metal look in exposed floors.
3) Will the 5 inch grate on the Oatey 72314 cover a 4 inch floor opening?
The grate is 5 inch round over a 4 inch PVC body, so the top overlaps the drain body and the surrounding floor opening. Lay out your tile cuts or slab opening to the 5 inch grate dimension, not the 4 inch pipe size.
4) Is the Oatey 72314 a floor drain or a shower drain?
It is a commercial floor drain, PVC bodied with a cast nickel grate. Residential shower pan drains use a clamping ring and membrane flange for a mortar bed liner; the 72314 is set in a floor and adjusted to grade, which suits utility rooms, kitchens, restrooms, and other commercial floors.
5) What is the Oatey part number to order this 4 inch adjustable PVC drain?
Order Oatey 72314. One configuration only: 4 inch PVC adjustable commercial drain body with the 5 inch cast nickel round grate assembly, so there is no finish or size option to specify.
