OATEY 72353 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 72353 commercial floor drain take 3 inch or 4 inch PVC pipe?
Both. The Oatey 72353 drain body accepts either 3 inch or 4 inch PVC, so one part covers the two most common commercial floor drain rough-ins. The connection is PVC, so you solvent weld it to PVC DWV pipe rather than using a no-hub band.
2) Can the Oatey 72353 drain height be adjusted after the slab is poured?
It is an adjustable commercial drain, so the strainer assembly threads up and down within the body to bring the grate flush with the finished floor. That is what lets you set the drain before the pour and fine tune the height once the topping or tile thickness is known.
3) What size and material is the grate on the Oatey 72353 drain?
An 8 inch cast nickel bronze grate with a round top. Cast nickel bronze holds up to foot and cart traffic and will not rust the way a plated steel strainer does, which is why it is specified in commercial kitchens, restrooms, and mechanical rooms rather than a plastic strainer.
4) Is the Oatey 72353 a good choice for a commercial kitchen or restroom floor, or do I need a cast iron drain?
The 72353 pairs a PVC body with a cast nickel bronze 8 inch grate, so the traffic surface is metal while the pipe connection stays PVC. That suits restrooms, janitor closets, mechanical rooms, and light commercial floors tied into a PVC DWV system. If your spec calls for a cast iron body and a no-hub outlet, this is not the drain for that job.
