OATEY 72344 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Oatey 72344 drain height be adjusted after the slab is poured?
The 72344 is an adjustable commercial drain, so the top assembly rises and lowers to bring the 6 inch grate flush with the finished floor. That is what makes it usable where the final floor thickness, mortar bed, or tile build-up is not settled when the body gets set.
2) What is the grate on the Oatey 72344, and will it hold up to foot traffic in a commercial space?
It comes with a 6 inch round cast grate in chrome. Cast metal rather than plastic is the reason this one gets specified for commercial floors, restrooms, and service areas where a strainer takes carts and traffic rather than occasional residential use.
3) Is the Oatey 72344 a PVC drain or an ABS drain?
PVC. The body is PVC, so it is solvent-welded with PVC cement to PVC pipe. ABS systems need an ABS-bodied drain or a proper transition, since PVC and ABS do not take the same solvent cement.
4) I need a 6 inch round chrome strainer to match the other floor drains in the building. Is this the same drain?
The 72344 pairs a 6 inch round cast chrome grate with a 4 inch PVC body. If the existing drains in your building use that same 6 inch round chrome top, the finished floor appearance matches. Confirm the existing pipe is 4 inch PVC before you plan it as a direct replacement, because the body size is fixed at 4 inch on this model.
