OATEY 72119 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Oatey 72119 a general purpose floor drain or a shower drain?
It's a general purpose drain, not a shower pan drain. There's no clamping ring or membrane flange for a tiled shower base. Use it for utility room floors, mechanical rooms, laundry areas, and similar places where you're draining to a 4 inch PVC line. For a tiled shower you want a dedicated three-piece shower drain with a clamping collar.
2) What size grate comes with the Oatey 72119 drain, and is it metal?
It ships with a 6 inch stainless steel grate. Stainless holds up better than plated steel in wet areas and wash-down spots, and the 6 inch round face gives you more open area than the typical 4 inch grate on a floor drain of this pipe size.
3) Does the Oatey 72119 drain include a trap?
No trap is part of it. The 72119 is a drain body with a hub base and a grate, so you trap the line below it with a separate P-trap on the 4 inch PVC. Plan the trap, and a trap primer if your code requires one for a floor drain, as separate material.
4) How much does the Oatey 72119 drain weigh for shipping or a material takeoff?
The 72119 is listed at 4 lbs with a shipping volume of 0.147. That's typical for a PVC body with a stainless grate, so it's a one-hand install item, not something that needs support rigging.
