OATEY 72116 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size drain pipe does the Oatey 72116 strainer and flange fit?
The Oatey 72116 is built for 6 inch pipe. The flange base is PVC and the connection is PVC, so it solvent welds to 6 inch PVC drain pipe. If your drain line is cast iron or ABS, this is not the matching part.
2) Is the Oatey 72116 a complete drain assembly or just the grate?
It is the strainer plus the PVC flange base together, model number 72116. You are not buying a loose grate, but the drain pipe itself is separate and has to be 6 inch PVC.
3) Is the strainer on the Oatey 72116 metal or plastic?
Two materials in one assembly: the round strainer is stainless steel, and the flange base it drops into is PVC. That gives you a metal walking surface over a plastic drain body.
4) Will a 6 inch Oatey PVC strainer work for a shower or floor drain in a multi-family unit?
It suits 6 inch PVC drain openings where a maintenance crew wants a stainless strainer face. The 6 inch round strainer is larger than the typical residential shower drain, so confirm your existing opening is 6 inch PVC before ordering a fleet of them for unit turns.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 72116 strainer assembly?
Light to handle and ship, at 0.35 for product weight with a listed volume of 0.031. Nothing here needs two people or special handling on a service truck.
