1) Can I use Oatey 30751 clear primer on ABS pipe?
No. The Oatey 30751 clear primer is for PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings only, and it is specifically not recommended for ABS piping installations. ABS solvent welding is done with ABS cement and does not call for this primer.
2) What temperature can I apply Oatey clear PVC primer at?
Application range is 40 to 110 degrees F (4 to 43 degrees C). Below 40 F the primer will not soften the pipe surface properly, so on cold-weather jobs keep the can and the pipe warm until you are ready to weld. The finished joint handles service temperatures up to 93 degrees C.
3) Will purple primer stain my finished work, and is there a clear option?
Oatey 30751 is a clear primer, so it will not stain most surfaces. That is the reason to pick it over purple primer on exposed piping, finished fixtures, or anywhere the joint stays visible. Note that many jurisdictions require a visible purple primer on inspected potable water and DWV work, so check what your inspector expects before you buy clear.
4) Does the Oatey 30751 primer meet low-VOC air quality rules in California?

The 30751 is an aggressive clear primer built for that step.
6) Is this primer suitable for DWV drain lines as well as pressure pipe?
Oatey clear primer is listed for DWV pipe applications and works on PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings generally, so it covers drain, waste and vent work alongside water lines. It does not cover ABS DWV, which is the other common drain material.
