OATEY 39226 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can an Oatey Sure-Vent 39226 air admittance valve replace a vent stack through the roof?
No. The Sure-Vent 39226 is intended for use as a secondary vent, so the building still needs its primary vent open to atmosphere. It relieves negative pressure at a fixture branch, it does not exhaust sewer gas.
2) How many fixtures will the Oatey 39226 Sure-Vent handle?
It's rated 20 DFU on a branch and 8 DFU on a stack. That covers a typical island sink or a small group of fixtures on a branch; if your branch load runs past 20 drainage fixture units you need a larger-capacity valve or a conventional vent.
3) What size pipe does the Oatey 39226 Sure-Vent connect to?
The valve ships with a 1.5 in. black tubular adapter and a 1.5 in. connection size, and the valve body itself is approved to handle vent pipe up to 2 in. So one unit covers 1-1/2 in. and 2 in. vent applications with the right adapter.
4) Is the Oatey Sure-Vent 39226 code approved for plumbing inspection?
It is approved under both the International Plumbing Code and the Uniform Plumbing Code, and it complies with ASSE Standard 1050 and 1051. Local amendments still govern where AAVs are permitted, but the product carries those listings.
5) Will the Oatey 39226 glue into ABS or PVC drain piping?
Both the valve body and the tubular adapter are ABS. ABS cement bonds it to ABS pipe; on a PVC system use a transition solvent or a mechanical/threaded connection rather than standard PVC cement.
6) At what pressure does the Oatey Sure-Vent open, and will it let sewer gas back out?
Sweet Spot technology opens the valve at -0.01 psi and seals at 0 psi and above, so it admits air only while the drain is pulling a vacuum and closes the moment pressure equalizes. Screening on the air inlets guards the seal against debris, and every unit is functionally tested at 1/4 in. and 30 in. of water column.
7) Does the Oatey 39226 air admittance valve come with anything to protect it during rough-in?
Yes, a protective sleeve is included. It gives you something to grip while threading the valve on and keeps drywall dust and debris out of the valve until the job is closed up.
8) What does an Oatey Sure-Vent 39226 weigh for a parts order?
About 0.5 lb per unit with a shipping volume of 0.042, which makes it easy to stock in quantity on a service truck or MRO shelf. Order by model 39226.
