Pamex FLFP00 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Pamex FLF Alto lever need to be ordered left or right handed?
No handing to specify. The Alto lever is non-handed, so one part works on a left or right hand door and you can stock a single item across a building. Note it is keyed on the outside and has a turn-piece inside, so you do still need to install it with the keyed side facing out.
2) Will the Pamex FLF lever latch into the strike plate already in my frame?
The bolt throws 1/2 inch, which is normal for a residential cylindrical latch, and the set ships with a 2-1/4 x 1-3/4 inch round corner full lip strike. If your existing strike is the same round corner size, you can leave the frame alone. If your frame has a square corner or an ANSI T-strike cutout, use the strike prep you already have and order the alternate strike option rather than filling the mortise. The latch faceplate supplied is 1 x 2-1/4 inch round corner.
3) What backset does the Pamex FLF Alto lever come with, and will it work in a door bored at 2-3/4?
Standard is a 2-3/8 inch backset on both sides, a deadlatch outside and a plainlatch inside. That is the usual residential backset. If your doors are bored at 2-3/4 inches, which is the other common backset, the standard latch will not reach the strike and you need to specify the alternate backset latch when you order.
4) Can the Pamex FLF Alto lockset be keyed alike with my existing Kwikset or Schlage keys?
The Alto ships standard with a 5-pin solid brass cylinder in the Kwikset KW keyway, and a 5-pin Schlage C keyway version is available. So if a building is already on KW keys you can keep one key, and if it is on SC you specify the C keyway version instead. Pick the keyway to match what is on the rest of the doors before you order, because the cylinder is what determines it.
5) My doors are 2 inches thick. Can I still use the Pamex Alto lever?
Not with the standard set, and not with the extension kit alone unless you order it. The Alto covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches standard, and an extension kit takes it from 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inches, so a 2 inch door needs that kit specified on the order. If you would rather have a lock that spans the range out of the box, the Hager 2525 Grade 2 entry lever is listed for 1-3/8 to 2 inch doors, and the Deltana 6201 Manchester entry lever covers 1-3/8 to 2 inches.
6) Which lever lock works on a 2 inch thick door where the Pamex FLF Alto does not fit?
The Pamex FLF Alto covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors as standard, with an extension kit for 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch. If you would rather order a lock that spans the thicker door out of the box, the Hager 2510 and Hager 2525 both list 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, the Deltana 6201 Manchester entry lever lists 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, and the Falcon K101 spans 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch. 7) What entrance lever should I use on a commercial corridor door instead of a Grade 3 residential set?
Step up to a Grade 1 or Grade 2 entrance lever. The Dexter C1000 is a Grade 1 Entry/Office cylindrical lever lock with a clutching lever, keyed, fitting 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. It is not a storeroom lock, where the outside is always locked, and it is not a classroom function. 19) Does the Pamex FLF Alto handing matter when replacing a Baldwin or Deltana lever?
The Pamex FLF Alto is non-handed, so one part covers a left or right hand door.
