Net2 proximity keyfobs are for use with the Net2 system. The tokens are supplied in packs of ten. To issue a token the user’s details are entered using the PC software. The token number is then entered by presenting the token to the desktop reader. Once programmed into the software the token is ready for use. Simply present the token to a reader, the access permissions will be instantly looked up and access granted or denied as appropriate. Paxton tokens use EM4100 technology with proprietary encoding which includes an authentication protocol in the form of a password exchange between the token and the reader. This provides an additional layer of security for your system.

1) Will Paxton Net2 proximity keyfobs work with a non-Paxton reader or another access control system?
No. Net2 keyfobs run at 125kHz using EM4100 technology with Paxton's proprietary encoding, including a password exchange between the token and the reader. That authentication handshake is what ties them to Net2 readers, so a generic 125kHz EM reader from another system will not read them as intended. Order these for Net2 installations only.
2) How do you add a new Paxton Net2 keyfob to the system for a new tenant or employee?
Enter the user's details in the Net2 PC software, then present the fob to a desktop reader to capture its token number. Once it is saved, the fob works at any reader the user has permission for, and the reader looks up those permissions at the moment of presentation. Practical consequence: you need a Net2 desktop enrollment reader at the PC to issue these, separate from the door readers.
3) If a tenant loses a Net2 keyfob, do I have to rekey anything?
No. Access lives in the Net2 software, not in the fob, so you delete or disable that token in the PC software and it stops working at every reader immediately. Nothing on the door changes. That is the main reason multi-family and MRO operators move off mechanical keying: a lost credential is a database edit, not a locksmith call.
4) Are Paxton Net2 keyfobs the same 125kHz proximity credential as HID Prox?
Both sit at 125kHz, but the encoding is different. Paxton tokens use EM4100 with a proprietary format and a password exchange between token and reader, so they are not interchangeable with other 125kHz credential formats. Frequency alone never establishes compatibility on prox credentials; the format and the reader's decoder do.
5) How many keyfobs come in a Paxton Net2 keyfob pack?
Ten fobs per pack, black. That is the only way Paxton supplies these tokens, so a 60-unit building means six packs. Worth counting your doors and your tenant turnover before ordering: property managers usually buy a spare pack so a lost fob does not hold up a move-in.
6) Are Paxton Net2 keyfobs rugged enough for outdoor gates and construction sites?
The fob body is ABS plastic with an IPx7 water rating, so brief immersion will not kill it. That covers the usual failure modes for a fob on a contractor's keyring or a maintenance tech's belt: rain, puddles, a trip through the washing machine. IPx7 addresses water only, not dust ingress.
7) Should I issue keyfobs or proximity cards to my building's users on a Net2 system?
